Blaulichtfilter-Brille wählen: was sie ist, wofür sie gut ist und worauf du achten solltest
Aktualisiert am LenBlu® Team
We spend a big part of the day in front of screens: computer, phone, tablet, console, TV. This guide explains, without hype, what blue light glasses are, what research says about them and what to look for when you pick a pair. You may also see them called "anti blue light glasses" or "blue light filter glasses".
What is blue light?
Blue light is the part of visible light with wavelengths between roughly 380 and 500 nanometers. Its main source is the sun, by a long way. Screens and LED lighting give off much smaller amounts. During the day, blue light is part of what signals the body to stay awake and keeps the daily sleep rhythm on track.
What are blue light glasses?
They are glasses whose lenses include a blue light filter or coating. There are two common types:
- Clear lens. Filters part of the blue light and keeps colors natural. Made for the whole day: work, errands, free time.
- Amber or orange lens. Filters a lot more, but tints everything yellow. Mostly worn in the evening.
LenBlu® glasses have a clear, non-prescription lens (plain, 0.00 power) with a built-in blue light filter, made for everyday wear, with colors that stay natural.
What does the research say?
The most cited source is a 2023 Cochrane review that looked at 17 studies. Its conclusion: compared with regular lenses, blue light filtering lenses probably make no difference to short-term eye strain from computer use. The evidence on sleep was inconclusive.
General sources link discomfort after long screen sessions to how we use screens: long stretches of near focus, less blinking and few breaks. Good habits, and a visit to a vision professional if something persists, matter more than any filter.
So why do people wear them? Many like the look: glasses are an accessory. We make light, good-looking glasses with a blue light filter built in.
Screen habits worth knowing
General information, not a treatment:
- The 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, look at something about 6 meters (20 feet) away for 20 seconds. It is widely quoted by the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
- Distance and height. Keep the screen 50 to 70 cm (20 to 28 in) away, with the top edge at eye level or a little below.
- Brightness. Match it to the room, and don't work in the dark with only the screen lighting your face.
- Blink on purpose. We blink less when we look at screens. Short, deliberate pauses help you remember to do it.
- Night mode. In the evening, switch your devices to warm light.
How to choose your blue light glasses
1. A clear lens if you'll wear them all day
Work, study, free time. Colors stay natural, and you can wear them indoors and out. A faint bluish reflection on the lens surface is normal with this type of filter.
2. Non-prescription, ready to wear
Plain 0.00-power lenses suit people who don't need vision correction, or who wear contact lenses (you can wear them over your contacts). No adjustment period.
3. The right size
Most glasses have three numbers on the temple, for example 53□18-140. They are the lens width, the bridge width and the temple length, all in millimeters. LenBlu® is 53-18-138: lens 53 × 45 mm, 142 mm overall width. That is a medium size that suits most adults. See our size guide for how to compare.
4. Light, and the right material
Weight matters when you wear glasses for hours. LenBlu® frames are TR90, a flexible, light material, and weigh about 17 grams.
5. A design you like
Glasses that live in a drawer don't help anyone. Clear is bright, discreet and goes with your whole wardrobe. Matte Black is understated, with a metal rivet at each front corner. Can't pick? The Duo Pack has both.
Frequently asked questions
Can I wear them all day?
Yes. The lenses are clear and made for everyday wear: at work, at home and out and about.
Does the filter work on my phone and console?
The filter is part of the lens, so it is there whichever screen you look at: computer, phone, tablet, TV or console.
Can children wear them?
The size is made for adults. For children, the general advice is to limit screen time and take regular breaks.
Are they a medical product?
No. They are everyday glasses with plain lenses. If you have persistent discomfort, talk to a vision professional.
