Search for blue light glasses and it gets confusing fast: yellow lenses, plastic frames, brands with big promises and prices all over the map. There is no perfect pair for everyone, but there is a sensible way to choose. Here are seven criteria.

1. Clear lens or amber lens

• Clear lens: filters part of the blue light and keeps colors natural. A comfortable choice for the day: work, study, play.
• Amber or orange lens: filters more blue light but tints everything yellow. Mostly used in the evening.

2. Clear information about the filter

Be wary of big promises. A brand should explain what the lens does: what it filters, whether it is non-prescription, and what it doesn't promise. Blue light glasses are not a medical treatment. If a seller claims they cure insomnia or headaches, walk away.

3. A light frame

Screen glasses are worn for hours, so weight counts. TR90 is a technical plastic that is light and flexible: a pair usually weighs 15 to 20 grams and doesn't press behind the ears. Thick acetate or metal frames tend to weigh more.

4. The right size

5. With or without prescription

6. A design you'd wear without a screen

It is the most forgotten criterion, and the one that decides whether you'll wear them. Glasses that look like office equipment end up unused. Choose a style that is yours, one you'd happily wear on a video call or in the street.

7. Price, delivery and returns

Compare what you get for the price: design, materials, service. And choose a seller that lets you return the glasses if they don't fit.
