Blue Light Glasses for Women and Men: How to Choose a Frame for Your Face

Many shops show the same frames in a "men" section and a "women" section. The label matters less than two things: how the frame fits your face, and your own style. These are the keys to getting it right first time.

Are blue light glasses different for women and for men?

In the lens, no. The filter is the same for everyone: it reduces part of the blue light from screens. There is no filter for him and another for her.

In the frame, sometimes. Three things can vary:

  1. Size. "Men's" frames tend to be wider, "women's" narrower.
  2. Shape. Straight lines or rounded ones, tall lenses or low ones.
  3. Color and finish. Shiny or matte, sober tones or bold ones.

These are trends, not rules. There are men with narrow faces and women with wide faces. The label helps very little.

One frame for women and for men

Many screen glasses are designed without a target gender: a neutral shape, a medium size and colors that work with any style. That is what we do at LenBlu® too.

The limit of this approach: a frame can suit anyone and still be too big or too small for you. Check two things before the label: the shape of your face and the measurements.

First, your face shape

Stand in front of a mirror with your hair pulled back. Look at the width of your forehead, your cheekbones and the shape of your jaw. The general rule is simple: look for contrast between the frame and your features.

  • Round face (full cheeks, few angles): square or rectangular frames add structure and make the face look longer.
  • Oval face (balanced proportions): almost everything works. A classic square frame is a safe bet.
  • Square face (strong jaw, wide forehead): frames with soft corners balance the angles.
  • Long face (longer than wide): frames with some height, such as an almost-square lens, make it look shorter.
  • Heart-shaped face (wide forehead, narrow chin): thin, light frames, so nothing feels heavy at the top.

A classic, thin square frame is one of the shapes that suits the widest range of faces. It is the one we chose for LenBlu®.

Size: what decides whether they fit

A good fit means two things: the overall width of the frame is close to the width of your face at temple height, and your eyes sit roughly in the middle of each lens.

LenBlu® comes in one size:

MeasurementValueHow to check
Overall width142 mmMeasure your face from temple to temple. A similar number means the frame sits flush, without sticking out or squeezing
Lens width53 mmThe first number on the temple of your current glasses. A 1 to 2 mm difference is hardly noticeable
Bridge18 mmThe second number on the temple. A similar number means the glasses rest at the same height on your nose

How to read those numbers: What glasses size am I?.

Four mirror checks

They work for any frame, wherever you buy it.

  1. Eyes. Each one should sit near the middle of its lens, not pressed to the nose or the outer edge.
  2. Eyebrows. The top edge of the frame should follow their line, without covering them completely.
  3. Cheeks. When you smile, the frame shouldn't rest on your cheekbones.
  4. Temples. The arms should run straight to your ear, without flaring out and without squeezing.

Color: Clear or Matte Black

With the size sorted, what's left is personal. The useful question isn't "is this for a man or a woman?" but "how much do I want my glasses to show?"

Clear frame

Light on the face and very versatile. It lets your features show and goes with any color of clothing. A good pick if you want glasses that are present but discreet. It is the LenBlu® Clear.

Matte Black frame

Frames your gaze and adds character at once. It looks good with dark hair, with understated outfits and with any skin tone. For a bolder look. LenBlu® Matte Black has a silver rivet at each front corner.

Can't decide?

With the Duo Pack you get both and pick every morning.

If it's your first pair of glasses

Clear blends in with your face and changes your look very little. Matte Black is noticed from day one. If that's exactly what you want, go for it.

Depending on your clothes

With light or neutral tones, Clear goes along without competing. With dark clothes or contrast, Matte Black completes the outfit. Both work as well with a shirt as with a hoodie.

Ideas for women

  1. Long or wavy hair: a square frame with clean lines adds contrast and balance.
  2. Natural makeup or a bold look: with natural makeup, Clear brightens the face; with winged eyeliner or bold lips, black holds the look.
  3. Out and about: choose a design that goes with your sunglasses and the accessories you always wear.

Ideas for men

  1. A beard or a strong jaw: a square frame with straight lines reinforces the structure of the face.
  2. Professional settings: Matte Black says serious without trying.
  3. Discretion: Clear is the most discreet option.

Glasses to share, or to give

Because they are non-prescription and one size, LenBlu® glasses don't belong to just one person. Any adult whose face suits the size can wear them. Share a pair at home, or give them without needing to know the other person's prescription.

What doesn't change: the filter

The filter reduces part of the blue light from screens, with a clear lens that keeps colors natural. It is not a treatment, and the evidence is limited: see Do blue light glasses work?.

One tip for everyone: choose a design you would wear even if there were no screen. If your vision is fine, or you wear contacts, see non-prescription blue light glasses. If you have discomfort, or think you may need a prescription, talk to a vision professional first.

Frequently asked questions

Are there different blue light glasses for women and men?
The filter and the lens are the same. What differs is the frame: shape, size and color. A classic square frame in a medium size suits most adult faces.

Are LenBlu® glasses for men or for women?
For both. One frame in two finishes, Clear and Matte Black, worn the same by everyone.

Which glasses suit almost everybody?
Classic square ones in a medium size. That is why we chose this shape for LenBlu® blue light glasses.

Will they fit if I have a small or very wide face?
They are 142 mm wide overall, with a 53 mm lens. If the first number on the temple of your current glasses is far from 53, the frame will feel bigger or smaller.

Can my partner and I share a pair?
Yes, if the size suits you both. There is no prescription, so there is nothing to adjust from one person to the other.

Can I give them without knowing the other person's prescription?
Yes, because they are non-prescription. They are made for people who see well without glasses or who wear contacts.

Which color should I choose if I can't decide?
Clear if you prefer discretion. Matte Black if you want them to be seen. Or the Duo Pack, which has both.

What if they don't fit as I expected?
Buy from a shop that lets you return them. With us you have 15 days.
