What Glasses Size Am I? How to Read Your Glasses Measurements

Buying glasses online raises one worry: will they fit? The answer is already on the glasses you own. Look at the inside of the temple (the arm) and you'll find three numbers in millimeters. Here is how to read them.
Where to find your glasses size
On the inside of the temple. It usually looks like 53□18-140 or 53-18-140. Three measurements:
- 53, lens width. The distance from one side of a lens to the other. It's the number that tells you most about whether a frame is big or small.
- 18, bridge. The distance between the two lenses, where the glasses rest on your nose.
- 140, temple length. The length of the arm, from the hinge to the tip behind your ear.
How to tell whether a new pair will fit
Compare the numbers with the glasses you already wear.
- Lens width. A difference of 1 to 2 mm is hardly noticeable. With 3 mm or more, the frame will feel clearly different.
- Bridge. A narrower bridge sits the glasses higher on your face. A wider one lets them sit lower on your nose.
- Temple length. Adults usually fall between 135 and 145 mm. Flexible frames (TR90) adapt more easily.
Approximate sizes
- Small: lens 48 to 50 mm. For narrow or small faces.
- Medium: lens 51 to 54 mm. The most common size for adults.
- Large: lens 55 mm and up. For wider faces, or if you like an oversized look.
No glasses to compare?
Measure the width of your face at temple height with a ruler. A frame fits well when its overall width is about the same as your face at that point, so the temples don't flare out or squeeze. For adults, overall frame widths of about 135 to 145 mm work for most faces.
